In the early 1960s, Southern California was home to a fearless creative culture, and Leo Fender set out to create a new collection of acoustic instruments that reflected the innovative spirit that surrounded the musicians. In collaboration with legendary luthier Roger Rossmeisl, Leo released several unique acoustic models that embodied the character that made Fender a symbol of the rock-and-roll revolution, including the distinctive headstock shape, comfortable neck profiles, and radical style, forever changing the look of Fender acoustics. Today's Fender California Vintage models are directly descended from their mid-century counterparts and feature retro visual styling, adding 21st-century performance and a rich, refined acoustic tone – a true modern alternative with a classic Fender heritage.

The dreadnought body of the Fender California Vintage King, built using innovative Performance-X technology, consists of a solid top made of Sitka spruce and a back and sides made of solid ovangkol, allowing for effortless reproduction of powerful, bass-filled sound with exceptional detail, projection, and volume. An ergonomic modern “V” profile was chosen for the okoume neck, with a scale length of 25.5" for optimal stability, and the headstock, tilted back with 6-in-line tuners, features a maple overlay for a striking appearance born from the DNA of Fender electric guitars. Among other notable details are the ovangkol fingerboard with pearloid block inlays for a retro look, tuners for smooth and precise tuning, as well as a bone nut and saddle for excellent harmonic sound. The Fishman Presys VT Plus preamp system, designed specifically for performers, features convenient controls located in the soundholes and combines a piezo pickup located in the lower body with an internal transducer that provides accurate and true reproduction of the guitar's natural sound when connected to an amplifier or recording device. A vintage-style case is included.

Solid wood construction
The body made from solid wood provides excellent resonance, volume, and dynamic range. Ovangkol is a premium wood, valued for its even midrange, balanced lows and highs, and attractive grain pattern.

Fishman Sonitone Plus electronics
This preamp, specially designed for Fender instruments, features volume controls and a knob for adjusting the body-sensitive pickup with a soundhole-mounted pickup for added detail. The control system, located in the soundholes, preserves the vintage aesthetic.

Modern “V” neck profile
The “V” neck profile combines a soft “V” shape back and a shallow neck depth, comfortably fitting in the hand during chords and providing a sense of ease along the entire neck length.
