Electric guitars for left-handed players have recently become available in Ukraine, making life easier for those born left-handed. Previously, such musicians had three options. The first – a left-handed person played on a right-handed guitar. There is an opinion that due to the stronger left hand, such musicians had a real chance to become virtuosos. The second option – a left-handed guitar was created by rearranging the strings. It seems that nothing could be simpler, but this idea can be implemented far from all instruments.

Issues and Solutions

Returning to the previous paragraph, it should be noted that the least popular is the third option. It implies that a left-handed person turns a right-handed electric guitar upside down. This path was taken by Jimi Hendrix, and we know the outcome. But such a manner is not for everyone; most teachers have problems with it, let alone beginners. To implement it, one will have to:

  • radically change the approach to traditional playing techniques;

  • develop a special chord positioning;

  • adjust the fingering.

Now let's return to the second method (the first is more or less clear). The fact is that a left-handed electric guitar with rearranged strings can only be made based on acoustic or classical instruments, and even then not on all of them! Their body must be symmetrical.

Many guitars lack symmetry, and electric guitars belong to this category. With such a configuration, it is impossible to rearrange the strings. But now a left-handed electric guitar is available in Ukraine for anyone who needs it.

Interesting Information

The left-handed guitar has gained cult status. This was significantly influenced by the iconic images unconsciously cultivated by guitar heroes, primarily Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. Young left-handed beginners understood that the left-handed guitar:

  • corresponds to their physical nature;

  • is associated with idols, which somewhat stimulates engagement;

  • by default highlights them among right-handed individuals, the majority, which is important in the creative community.

  • The guitar market demanded left-handed guitars, they appeared and are in considerable demand.

Recommendations for Buyers

If your children are left-handed and want to play guitar, if you personally are left-handed but wish to master the six-string instrument – in any of these cases, do not go against nature!

If the beginner is left-handed, they need to buy a left-handed guitar. It will not cost more than right-handed counterparts. It is very important that on such an instrument both the student and the teacher can use materials designed for right-handed players.

Technical Features

A left-handed electric guitar is a mirror image of a right-handed one. This feature is its only difference: neither the cost nor the sound quality changes. Currently, reputable manufacturers are working on the release of left-handed guitars, among which:

The brand affects the price, but besides this indicator, a significant factor that shapes it is the material of manufacture. In guitar production, alder, maple, poplar, amaranth, laurel, etc. are used. Keep in mind that the body and neck are made from different types of wood. Among the selection parameters, there are also:

  • scale length;

  • pickup configuration (can be H-H; H-S-S; S-S; S-S-S);

  • number of frets;

  • presence of tremolo, etc.

Often attention is also paid to the color of left-handed electric guitars, and, as a rule, all models available for sale have an aesthetic design.
